Uber Eats Introduces Two New Sustainability Initiatives
Food delivery services like Uber Eats have helped to reduce the amount of cars on the road and thus reduce carbon emissions. The brand is now taking it two steps further with their newest sustainability initiatives in the United Kingdom.
According to a recent report that was published in EV Magazine, the company now has a green packaging badge for customers to identify sustainable restaurants. These restaurants are given these badges for using reusable packaging, compostable containers and recyclable packaging.
Every year, plastic packaging contributes to about 1.8 billion tons of carbon emissions. With these restaurants identified, customers are not only support local eco friendly businesses but help reduce the pollution in our planet.
The second initiative the Uber Eats is adopting is adding more electric motorcycles to their delivery fleet. They’re partnering with the UK’s largest electric motorcycle rental company, Zenion. 2,200 electric motorcycles will be supplied in London for Uber Eats workers to use for deliveries.
The food delivery company is also going to give financial incentives to drivers who use electric vehicles. It’s great thing that we spend less time driving, but what other ways can people use Uber Eats to help support a more sustainable planet?
One thing to consider is the restaurants that you buy food from. Restaurants that sell meat dishes cause more environmental harm to the planet than restaurants that don’t. Meat and dairy have been found to contribute around 14.5% of global greenhouse emissions.
The next time you’re thinking of what to order for lunch or dinner, look for a vegan restaurant. These restaurants don’t use meat or dairy to make any of their dishes.
Another thing to is whenever you’re asked if you want utensils or not, select the option not to receive utensils. Instead, you can use the metal forks and knives that you have at your home.
