9 Best Organic Baby Shampoos (2022)
Becoming a more conscious consumer can be overwhelming. Add in a brand new bundle of joy and this can feel impossible.
After doing some research it turns out that while many baby shampoos contain organic ingredients, they also include natural ingredients. This means that while the shampoo is made with certified organic ingredients, it is not 100% organic.
This is an improvement from the harsh chemicals and synthetic material that shampoo’s used to contain. The natural ingredients are a better option while companies work on finding organic alternatives.
Having come a long way doesn’t mean there aren’t still chemicals used in the products. When looking into these companies the ones that made the cut used chemicals that rated either a 1 or a 2 on the EWG Skin Deep.
Skin is the body’s largest organ and absorbs a lot in one day. It is definitely worth avoiding toxic chemicals when caring for it. To make it simpler here is a list of baby shampoo companies that are organic.

These Companies did not Make our Organic Shampoo List
As mentioned earlier, no shampoo is all organic. A a certain amount of non organic ingredients are allowed in organic shampoos.
We should note that the companies below are doing great things and choosing more natural ingredients. But while other sources may list these brands on baby organic shampoo lists, we chose not to for one of two reasons.
- Some of their ingredients were not available on their website.
- The ingredients did not meet our EWG standard for this article. But this does not necessarily mean they are not within legal limits.
Plaine Products
Plaine Products is big on reusable products, which is great. One ingredient on their list was not very clear. While quite possibly nothing to worry about, it was unclear what Vitamin E complex was used.
*Weleda
Waleda is celebrating 100 years of work in the natural skin care industry. The company has always looked for ways to bring people closer to nature.
By working with Terracycle and touting a UEBT, certified sourcing with respect, Waleda has managed to maintain high ethical and sustainability standards.
When looking into their products on their website nothing was marked organic. Because this list requires there be some organic ingredients this company did not make it on here.
Ethique
Ethique is determined to stop the use of single-use plastics in cosmetics. While none of their soaps are certified organic, they include organic ingredients and are all made from naturally derived ingredients.
While not organic or natural, ingredients rate an EWG score of 1. The only exception is Behentrimonium methosulfate, which is rated 4 due to it being a toxin/allergen.
An EWG score of 4 is considered safe to be used in skincare products. But because a peer-reviewed article on EWG stated that these chemicals have been found to cause reproductive toxicity in animals, we did not add this company to our list.
